MEET ANGELA

Hi There!

I'm Angela Watson Robertson.

I’m known as The Reinvention Warrior on Facebook, and @integrativehealthcoachangela on Instagram, and I’m a Board-Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Life Reinvention Expert located in Kansas City, MO who teaches women how to reinvent their lives starting with the food they eat. I specialize in helping women thrive despite chronic pain and illness, endometriosis, perimenopause, IBS and anxiety. I’m also a wife, proud mom of one, yoga teacher, reiki master teacher, entrepreneur + MBA grad, and a French bulldog lover.

I grew up on a farm in northern Missouri where “farm to table” was not a thing- It was just daily life.

As a small-town farm kid I learned to shoot a bow, shoot a gun, drive a tractor, milk a goat, hunt, fish and garden. I was a super active, athletic, tall girl (I’m 6’1”!) I ran track, played softball, and was the captain of my high school basketball team. After high school I went to The University of Missouri- Columbia and my wanderlust led me to Guadalajara, Mexico for a study abroad program. Plus, I traveled to several other countries and lived in Colorado working as an outdoor leadership counselor in the summers. It was a lot of fun, but soon I had to get out into the real world and I began a career in experiential education and outdoor leadership (in short, I was a rafting, hiking, outdoor wilderness, and skiing instructor).

Six years in on these adventures and fueled by my desire to achieve and pay some bills (I was ready for some steady income), Living in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the time, I worked 4 jobs and went to night school for my MBA in Albuquerque, NM. Afterward I landed a job at a local mortgage company (hello desk job and a steady paycheck!) and I soon found myself climbing the corporate ladder in mortgage and financial services. I was promoted several times and soon was recruited by a national financial services company to move to Dallas, TX.

I continued to climb the ladder and worked for several large companies, then decided to pivot from a project management desk job to a sales and consulting position. This was a big change as I’d never been in sales before, yet soon I had my “dream job” with the fancy title and the big paycheck.

I had moved from Missouri, to Colorado, to New Mexico, and now I lived in Dallas and was constantly traveling to and from New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago for work. It was fun for a while and I was great at sales, but I was having daily panic attacks and my body started to fall apart. I had debilitating anxiety, skin rashes, constipation, gastrointestinal pain, painful menstruation, and was constantly going to the ER for abdominal pain that doctors couldn’t explain.

I’d found myself in a full-blown health crisis, despite being young and looking healthy – I was sick and in pain all the time and I didn’t know why. Then began several years of going from doctor to doctor to find out what was wrong with me. It was an exhausting season of life trying to keep my big-time job and on the road while trying to figure out what was happening to my body.

After all the tests and appointments, I didn’t get a lot of answers- but I did learn a lot about supplementation and herbs, lifestyle medicine, meditation, anxiety, and stress reduction. Plus, I learned about my food sensitivities and started making diet changes that made a huge positive impact on my quality of life. After some lifestyle and diet changes, I was better–but something was still off.

It was around this time, in 2012, I attended my yoga teacher training and I (thankfully) met my husband. After years of dating and a lot of messy relationships, it was rewarding to meet someone with similar goals who also wanted to focus on health and personal growth. Together we supported one another in creating a more sustainable and more fulfilling life. Our mantra was to “create meaning instead of avoiding discomfort” and “feel the fear and do it anyway” and we did just that.

In 2015, we were married in a small ceremony just the two of us in Dallas, TX. As I was in a full-blown mental and physical health crisis (due to overworking and undiagnosed/untreated Endometriosis), I wasn’t able to plan a big wedding at that time.

So it was literally just the two of us and our officiant– a stranger nearby took this image on her iPhone.

That same month, I left my corporate career to enroll in nutrition school and become an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. I was already doing reiki energy balancing and teaching yoga on the side, but I wanted to do more. I wanted to create a coaching practice focused around helping women prevent chronic illness and manage pain, gut imbalances, fertility and reproductive challenges, hormone imbalances, endometriosis, PCOS, and anxiety. I didn’t want another woman to go through what I’d been through without having someone to walk them through it. I also wanted to coach women around major life changes, reinventions, and transformations. As life reinvention is my jam.

In 2016, we moved to Kansas City, Missouri and just a few hours from where I grew up with the hope of getting pregnant. After 13 years of being away from my home state I was ready to be closer to my mother and the rest of our family if we were going to have a child. Yet, life had other plans and after a year of trying with no success, we found out that I had endometriosis and were told that we only had a 20% chance of conceiving naturally due to my condition.

After 15 years of being dismissed by doctors despite chronic pain and symptoms, I finally had an answer and diagnosis — Endometriosis. I was glad that there was some hope with my health and healing journey. Yet after a surgery (ablation / laparoscopic) and hormone-induced menopause (lupron), we still had very little chance of conceiving.

After much thought, my husband and I decided to decline fertility treatments and focus on my health instead. After all, we’d never planned on having children, and we focused on other things- like our careers and having a bigger wedding with family and friends that we’d wanted two years before.

Due to changing careers and prioritizing my health, I felt well enough to plan a second wedding in 2017 in Kansas City, MO

Once again, life had other plans and just as I began to write a book, start a podcast, and grow my health coaching practice (and just 2 months after declining fertility treatments)- I became unexpectedly pregnant in May 2017. We were thrilled, but what followed was a challenging and painful pregnancy due to hormone imbalance and scar tissue from my recent surgery.

Thankfully, our daughter was born in February 2018 and was our miracle baby we didn’t think we’d be able to have. We were elated to be parents, but labor and childbirth was traumatic and difficult for me (hello 13 hours of labor, 3 hours of pushing, and the most pain I’ve ever experienced).

Though our baby was healthy (thank you midwife and doula), we continued to experience challenges with breastfeeding which was the last straw after years of infertility, chronic pain, anxiety, and stress. The traumatic childbirth– in addition to difficult postpartum days involving pumping and feeding– and a lip/tongue tie surgery for my baby at 5 weeks old, triggered severe Postpartum Depression (PPD). Many days I no longer wanted to live and I knew I needed help.

I found a support group, therapist, psychiatrist and began treatment for severe depression. It took 10 months to crawl out of the dark hole of PPD with a variety of tools and techniques, but I’m glad to say that I made it through that tough stage of life.

My own healing and health crisis re-emerged about a year later with severe pelvic pain and I researched more about endometriosis. I learned that the fertility specialist in 2016 did just enough to try to get me pregnant, but really didn’t know much about endometriosis and the type of surgery (ablation) was not the gold-standard of treatment for this disease. I was able to find a true endometriosis specialist in my state and had the proper surgery (Excision) in 2019. This surgery involved removal of all of the endometriosis adhesions throughout my pelvis and I lost my right ovary and appendix.

Recovery from this surgery, while raising a toddler, was very difficult. Yet, I learned so much about proper treatment of endometriosis (which has no cure, but can be managed), pelvic physical therapy, supplements and diet for an inflammatory disease like this. After 2 surgeries and so much challenge, the journey continued as i began to experience severe hormonal imbalance and ovarian cyst ruptures due to losing an ovary. In addition, I entered perimenopause at the age of 39 (hot flashes are no joke!)

Though we weren’t planning on having a 2nd child as our family felt complete, life had seemed to make the decision for us and we happily embraced being a one-child family.

My dance with endometriosis, IBS, anxiety, and perimenopause continues to this day and I share a lot of my journey on Instagram as @6foothealthcoach and @6footendowarrior.

Though my journey has been painful and heart-breaking at times, it has equipped me with first-hand experience to help others. I now help women go through their own life reinventions and health challenges –specializing in anxiety and depression/PPD, perimenopause, infertility, IBS and gut health challenges, PCOS, and Endometriosis. Few things bring me more joy and fulfillment than helping another woman, person, or mother find the light at the end of a dark tunnel and/or reduce and manage painful symptoms so she can live a happier, healthier life.

What My Clients Say

See what my clients are saying…

I’ve been searching for answers to my health problems for half my life and it turns out, Angela had the answers. In 6 weeks I felt mentally, physically, and emotionally healthier than I ever have. One thing I really appreciate about Angela is that she is very holistic…and I really recommend anyone hire her

I truly can’t say enough good things about Angela and would absolutely recommend her to anyone! I initially hired Angela to help guide me in making better nutrition decisions for my body and to lose some weight in the run up to my wedding, but what I actually got from Angela was so so much more. Angela really has helped me in almost every aspect of my life and with her advice, help and encouragement my life is now so much better and happier.

“Angela truly changed my life. I recommend her 100%. After just 3 months, I have lost several inches off my body, have decreased gas and bloating, and lost some weight. I stopped binge eating for the first time in years and I no longer have sugar cravings! My anxiety around health and food has completely diminished and I’m a happier and healthier person each day.”

“I have loved working with Angela and would 100% recommend her. I was having issues with my skin, my energy, and my sleep. I knew I needed to make a lifestyle change, but I had no idea where to start– and I was horrible at self motivation. Angela helped me not only stay on track, but she helped me completely change my lifestyle…please contact Angela!”

So much less bloat! I thought that I was just going to constantly be uncomfortable with bloating due to the PCOS/endo. You showed me that there are ways to make that go away. Things fit better & I can now tell what foods are causing the issue since it’s not constant anymore. The other change is my tailbone pain has calmed down extremely. I work out and do yoga but constantly had tailbone pain. It is much less frequent! I am more calm in my mind and not overwhelmed with what diet is the best for my body.

“Angela is a great resource and has been guiding me in the right direction for my health and fertility. She has extensive knowledge of nutrition/the ways our body works/and so much more! I enjoy our calls and she is always sharing something new with me. I’ve seen a change in my weight, but more importantly, I’m feeling so much better! I have been working through some tough digestive issues and she has been great walking me through the steps. I recommend her to everyone I know!”
